OUR DOCTRINAL STATEMENT

(Also known as Articles of Faith)

            1.         THE SCRIPTURES

We believe in the Holy Bible (word for word) and plenary (full, entire, complete) inspiration of the Old and New Testament, that they are the final authority for faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, infallible and God-breathed.

Ref.:  II Tim. 3:15-17; II Peter 1:20-21; II Peter 3:15-17; Matt. 5:17-19; Luke 16:29-31; John 22:13-15;

            2.         THE GODHEAD

We believe in one triune God, the Maker, Preserver, and Ruler of all things, eternally existing in three persons ---The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit --- co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, each with distinct personal attributes but without division of nature, essence, or being.

Ref.:  Deut. 6:4; Gen. 1:1-31; Gen. 6:3; John 1:1-2; Phil. 2:1-6; John 10:29-31; Matt. 22: 29-32; Jer.10:10

            3.         THE PERSON AND WORK OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ is eternally equal with God; that He became man by the Holy Spirit and virgin birth; that He lived a sinless life on earth; that His body was as a satisfactory sacrifice for sinners; that His body was buried in and arose from Joseph's tomb; that He ascended to Heaven and was glorified as a man at God's right hand; that He sent the eternal Spirit on Pentecost to convict the world; to regenerate, indwell, and empower believers, and to build the church; that He is coming again for His own and then to set up His Kingdom on earth.

Ref.: Matt. 16:13-17; John 1:1; I Tim 2:5; Matt. 1:20-23; II Cor. 5:21; Heb. 10:11-14; Acts 7:55-56; John 16:7-11; John 3:5; I Cor. 6:19; Phil. 4:13; I Cor. 12:13-14; I Thess. 4:16-17; Matt. 19:28-30; Matt. 25:31-32; Rev. 19:5

            4.         THE PERSON AND WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement; that He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, in whom all believers are baptized into the body of Christ; that He indwells and seals them unto the day of redemption.  We believe that He is the Divine Teacher and Helper who guides believers into all truth and that it is the privilege and duty of all saved to be filled (controlled) by the Spirit.

Ref.:  John 16:7-15; I Cor. 12:12-14; II Cor. 1:19-22; Eph. 1:13; John 3:1-8; Roman 8:2; Titus 3:1-5; Eph. 4:30-32

            5.         THE PERSONALITY OF SATAN

Satan is a supernatural person; the author of sin and the cause of the fall of man, he is the open and declared enemy of God and Man, and he shall be eternally punished in the Lake of Fire.

Ref.:  Gen. 3:1-15; Matt. 4:1-11; John 8:41-44; Luke 10:17-20; John 13:2, 27; I Peter 5:8; Rev. 12, 20:7-10; Luke 4:1-13;

            6.         THE FALL OF MAN

Man was created by the special act of God, as recorded in Genesis. "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." (Gen. 1:27). " And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."(Gen. 2:7). He was created in a state of Holiness under the law of his Maker, but, through the temptation of Satan, he transgressed the command of God and fell from his original holiness and righteousness; whereby his posterity inherit a nature corrupt and in bondage to sin, are under condemnation, and as soon as they are capable of moral action, become actual transgressors.

Ref.:  Gen. 1:26-27,2:7,3:4-7; John 1:23 Rom. 5:12, 14, 19, 21,7:23-25, 11:18, 22, 32-33; Gen. 3:22-24; Col. 1:21; Rom. 3:23; I John 1:8; Eph. 2:3

            7.         HELL

We believe that Hell is the second death of all mankind who do not believe, fallen angels, demons and the Devil himself. We believe that Hell as described to us in the written word to be a lake of fire and brimstone, where the nonbelievers will be tormented both day and night for eternity.

Ref.: 2 Peter 2:3-5; Rev. 19:20, 21:8, 20:10-15, 21:8; Luke 16:22-25; Mark 9:48; Matt. 26:24

            8.         HEAVEN

We believe in a literal place called Heaven where God's immediate presence is manifested, where the angels dwell, and where the redeemed shall ultimately dwell, from whence Christ descended and to which He ascended again, where He maketh intercession for the saints, and from whence He shall come to judge the living and dead.

Ref.:  Gen. 1:1 Psalm 102:19; Eccl. 5:2; Isa. 66:1; Matt. 22:30; John 14:1-3; John 16:28; Acts 1:10-11; II Tim. 2:5; Heb. 7:25; I John 2:14; II Thess. 1:7-10; Rev. 21:

            9.         THE ETERNAL STATE

We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life and unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment.  We believe that the soul in the unbeliever remains after death, in conscious misery until reunited.  They shall appear at the Great White Throne of judgment and shall be cast into the Lake of Fire, not to be annihilated, but to suffer everlasting punishment.  We believe that the soul of the redeemed are, at death, absent from the body and present with the Lord, where, in conscious bliss, they await the first resurrection glorified forever with the Lord.

Ref.:   John 8:58; Rev. 2; Acts 24:14-16; John 5:28-29; Luke 16:19-31; Luke 23:40-43; II Cor. 5:6-9; I Thess. 4:14-17; I John 3:1-6

            10.       THE WAY OF SALVATION

The way of salvation for sinners is wholly of grace, through Jesus Christ the Son of God, who by the Holy Spirit was born of the Virgin Mary and took upon him our nature, yet without sin; honored the divine law by his personal obedience and made atonement for our sins by his death.  Being raised from the dead, he is now enthroned in Heaven, and, uniting in his person the most tender sympathies with divine perfection, he is in every way qualified to be a compassionate and all-sufficient Savior.

SALVATION involves the redemption of the whole man, and offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. In its broadest sense, salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.

Ref.:  I Cor. 15:3-4; Heb. 7:25; I John 2:1; Rom. 5:1-11; Matt. 27:29-50; Matt.1; 21-25; Luke 1:35, 2:11; Col. 1:20-25.

            11.       REGENERATION

Regeneration, or the new birth, is a work of God's grace whereby believers become new creatures in Christ Jesus. It is a change of heart wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are inseparable experiences of grace.

12.       REPENTANCE

Repentance is a genuine turning from sin toward God. Faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and commitment of the entire personality to Him as Lord and Savior.

13.       JUSTIFICATION

Justification is God's gracious and full acquittal upon principles of His righteousness of all sinners who repent and believe in Christ. Justification brings the believer unto a relationship of peace and favor with God.

14.       SANCTIFICATION

Sanctification is the experience, beginning in regeneration, by which the believer is set apart to God's purposes, and is enabled to progress toward moral and spiritual maturity through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him. Growth in grace should continue throughout the regenerate persons life. Glorification is the culmination of salvation and is the final blessed and abiding state of the redeemed.

Genesis 3:15; Exodus 3:14-17; 6:2-8; Matthew 1:21; 4:17; 16:21-26; 27:22-28:6; Luke 1:68-69; 2:28-32; John 1: 11-14,29; 3:3-21,36; 5:24; 10:9,28-29; 15:1-16; 17:17; Acts 2:21; 4:12; 15:11; 16:30-31; 17:30-31; 20:32; Romans1:16-18; 2:4; 3:23-25: 5:8-10; 6:1-23; 8:1-18,29-39, 10:9-10,13; 13:11-14; 1 Corinthians 1:18,30; 6:19-20; 15:10; 2 Corinthians 5:17-20; Galatians 2-20; 3:13; 5:22I-25;6:15; Ephesians 1: 7; 2:8-22; 4: 1 1-16, Philippians 2:12-13; Colossians 1:9-22; I Thessalonians 5:23 -24; 2 Timothy 1:12; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews  2:1-3; 5:8-9; 9:24-28; II :1-12:8,14; James 2:14-26: 1 Peter 1:2-23; l John 1:6;2:11; Revelation 3:20-21:1-22:5.

            15.       THE CHURCH

We believe in the one true church, the Spiritual body and Bride of Jesus Christ, composed of believers from Pentecost to the Rapture, into which believers are baptized in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  We believe that the local church is an organization composed of professing, baptizing believers, instituted for the purpose of worship, service, and fellowship.  In matters of administration and policy, it is self-governing.  We believe the only ordained officers of the local church are Pastor and Deacons, whose qualifications, claims, and duties are defined in the epistles to Timothy and Titus.

            Ref.: Matt. 16:16-18; Acts 2; I Cor. 12:13; Eph. 5:27

            16.       BAPTISM

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, Son, And the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and the Lord's Supper. In case of severe disability, the deacon board may approve an alternate means of baptism.

            Ref.:  Matt. 3:15-17; Mark 1:4; Matt. 28:19; Rom. 6:3-4; Col. 2:12; I Peter 3:21

            17.       THE LORD'S SUPPER

The Lord's Supper is an ordinance of Jesus Christ, to be administered with the elements of bread and wine, and to be observed by His church till the end of the world.  It is in no sense of a sacrifice, but it is designed to commemorate His death, to confirm the faith and other graces of Christians, and to be a bond, pledge, and renewal of their communion with Him, and of their church fellowship.

            Ref.:  I Cor. 11:23-29; Matt. 26:26-30; Mark 14:22-26; Luke 22:13-20

            18.       THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS CHRIST

The New Testament teaches in many places the visible and personal return of Jesus to this earth.  "This same Jesus is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him to into heaven."  The time of his coming is not revealed.  "Of that day and hour knoweth no one, no, not the angels in heaven, but my Father only."  It is the duty of all believers to live in readiness for his coming and by diligence in good works to make manifest to all men the reality and the power of their hope in Christ.

            Ref.:  Titus 2:11-13; Matt. 25:34; Rev. 20; Matt 24:36-47

            19.       THE PERSEVERANCE OF THE SAINTS

All real believers endure to the end.  Their continuance in well doing is the mark, which distinguishes them from those who merely profess.  A special Providence cares for them, and they are kept by the power of God through faith.

Ref.:  John 1:28-29; Tim. 2:19; I John 2:19; I Cor. 11-32; Rom. 8:30, 9:11, 16; Rom. 5:9-10; Matt. 26:70-75; Matt. 7;21-23; John 10:22-30

            20.       EVANGELISM AND MISSIONS

We believe it is the duty of every Christian and the church to seek to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth, to constantly seek to win the lost to Christ for the purpose of calling out a people for His name.  This is the prime purpose of the church for this age.

            Ref.:  Matt. 4:19; Acts 15:14; Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8;

ARTICLE IV

OUR CHURCH COVENANT

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into a covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love, to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality, to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully  and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expense of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions, to religiously educate our children, to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world, to be just in our dealing, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale of, and use of, intoxicating drinks as a beverage, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Savior.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer, to aid each other in sickness and distress, to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.
